In Germanic languages, the root gave Old English gōs with the plural gēs and gandra (becoming Modern English goose, geese, gander, respectively), West Frisian goes, gies and guoske, Dutch: gans, New High German Gans, Gänse, and Ganter, and Old Norse gās and gæslingr, whence English gosling. The word "goose" is a direct descendant of Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰh₂éns. The collective noun for a group of geese on the ground is a gaggle when in flight, they are called a skein, a team, or a wedge when flying close together, they are called a plump. Young birds before fledging are called goslings. The term "goose" may refer to either a male or female bird, but when paired with " gander", refers specifically to a female one (the latter referring to a male). More distantly related members of the family Anatidae are swans, most of which are larger than true geese, and ducks, which are smaller. Some other birds, mostly related to the shelducks, have "goose" as part of their names. This group comprises the genera Anser (the grey geese and white geese) and Branta (the black geese). Lastly, most ducks do not migrate, while all species of geese migrate every year.A goose ( PL: geese) is a bird of any of several waterfowl species in the family Anatidae. Geese also have a far longer lifespan than ducks, and most ducks have an average lifespan of 10 years, while geese can easily live up to 20 years in the right conditions. Geese form powerful pair bonds and mate for life, while ducks have short mating seasons and mate with a different partner every season. Ducks have longer, wider bills than geese and are omnivores, while geese tend to be predominantly herbivorous-although some species do eat small fish and insects at times. Geese can occasionally be found with colored feathers, but ducks are generally far more colorful than geese, especially males. Geese are far larger than even the biggest duck species and have longer, more slender necks too. What Are the Differences Between Geese and Ducks? Ducks, like geese, are omnivores and forage on grass, aquatic plants, insects, and even small crustaceans. While geese are known for pair-mating and bonding for life, ducks form seasonal bonds only, and new pair bonds are formed each season. They do best in small flocks and are known to become depressed if they live alone. Ducks are generally docile, social creatures and do not have the aggressive reputation of geese. Males are usually the most colorful, depending on the species, and females typically have dull brown feathers that make it easier for them to hide from predators.ĭucks tend to spend most of their time on the water and inhabit ponds, streams, rivers, and wetlands and can be found on every continent but Antarctica. Most ducks also have long necks but still much shorter necks than swans or geese. These include diving ducks, dabbling ducks, goldeneyes, and perching ducks, and there are various species within these categories.Ī standard duck, no matter the species, has a characteristic rounded head, torpedo-shaped body, and a flattened, rounded bill. Ducks are typically divided into several categories according to common characteristics.

When she returned I explained that I had just called 10 minutes previously & had been told they had them. 'Oh we're All Out of Gyros' I was told by the female who answered, then put me on Hold. Philly Cheese steak & fries, mushrooms, etc & finally Gyro. Since my husband was eager for dinner & had already selected a Philly Cheese I called the restaurant & was told Yes they had Gyros! Tastebuds ready to savour, I recalled them at most 10 minutes later & started to place our order. So I looked at All the websites for Rosati's in Lake Havasu- some had it but some didn't. We thought since it was only a few miles away from where we were staying we'd order Takeout, so I started to order on their (?) Online web. We can't get gyros at home so I was Really looking forward to ordering one from Rosatis. We had plenty of time to get up and leave.ĭon't even bother with this place, you're CLEARLY bothering the staff and making them do their jobs. The waitress who seated us, wiped down the table at our request dropped menus and walked away. 6/30/2023 0 Comments Add my logo to productsWhile many logos are displayed in color on products or in marketing materials, registering for a trademark in color means that the logo is only protected if it’s displayed in those colors. (This only applies to applicants with actual use in commerce, meaning the business owner has already sold goods or services using the specific logo.) Those intending to use a logo for service later will be required to show this proof later on.Īlso consider the final version of the logo. A JPG or PDF file of a “specimen” that shows an example of how the logo appears on the product or service itself. If your logo is in color, you also need a description of the colors and where they’re used A JPG image file of the final version of the logo or design.Product(s) or service(s) the logo will represent, along the class of goods or services for which you’re registering the trademark.(Note: Individuals and businesses who are based outside of the US will need to hire a lawyer to complete this process.) Name, address and personal details of the entity filing for the trademark. Prepare the following information for the application process: This can save time and effort in the long run, especially in the event of any unforeseen complications. Lawyers will be able to write descriptions of the logo using language that’s common and understood by the USPTO better than beginners to the process. A patent and trademark attorney may be helpful with guidance for this process. Because applications can be entirely rejected for small errors and fees are not refundable, it’s important to ensure each part of an application is correct before submitting. The application process can be time-consuming and complex. This may be especially beneficial with graphic marks. Attorneys are trained in special techniques to perform a more thorough search before an application is submitted. Some experts, including those who wrote the USPTO website, recommend hiring an attorney or a specialized service to conduct this search on behalf of a business owner. Search for existing trademarked logos on the USPTO website using the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS). Logos cannot be generic and should always be unique to the business. An application may be rejected if the logo submitted is likely to be confused with existing logos for comparable goods or services. Search for Existing Trademarksīefore applying for a logo trademark, it’s important to search for existing trademarks that may bear any resemblance. If nationwide protection is needed, then registering a logo with the USPTO is a wise step. Common law legal protection for a trademark only applies to the geographic area where the business operates. Once a business begins to use a logo to advertise and sell goods or services, they automatically attain common law ownership and the limited protections associated with it-but only if the business can prove it was the first businesses to use the mark. It’s important to first consider whether a trademark registration with the USPTO is necessary, since the process requires time, effort and money. If based outside the U.S., a patent attorney will be required to make the filing. Anyone can apply online on the USPTO website if the business for which they’re authorized to file is principally located inside the U.S. How to Trademark a LogoĪ unique logo can be trademarked by registering it with the USPTO. Other companies providing similar goods or services face harsh penalties for using a design similar to a trademarked logo, including foreign entities that import products into the U.S. By trademarking a logo, business owners acquire legal protection against counterfeits, copycats and fraud. On 's Website What Is a Trademark?Ī trademark can be a word, phrase, symbol or image unique enough to register as a business’ exclusive brand. 6/30/2023 0 Comments Suzerain lyricsJérôme Hey ! Lastly, users can immediately record their details in the autofill form consisting of the user’s name, title, date of birth and phone number. This method is best conducted solely using the current default browser, as old passwords from other browsers can easily muddy accounts with multiple choices.įollowing this, the user is prompted to add an extension to their default browser, streamlining limited access to the service including the vault of passwords and details about current websites. The software automatically detects passwords saved in each browser installed on the system and allows users to import them over to the service, saving time in the long-run. Although there is an option to skip past these and get straight to the core of the manager, the guides help to explain the full feature set that Dashlane has to offer. Once this has been filled out, users are welcomed with a series of guides. Users on Windows also get the option to activate Windows Hello, further securing their account with system-based passwords and biometric security. Users on mobile will instead be able to use their built-in fingerprint scanner to unlock their account. The computer-generated animations and the live-action clips were blended together in post-production. "It was primarily so we could reflect the appropriate light on them, but it had the double benefit of being a visual reference for them, too," he said. Webber said the contraption also showed the actors what their characters were seeing during the scene being shot. In reality, it's the light patterns that are spinning around her. When the actors were locked up inside, computer-controlled robotic cameras captured close-ups under just the right lighting conditions - even for the scenes where Bullock looks as if she's spinning out of control. Those lights could be programmed to project moving images of Earth and space. The filmmakers' most innovative tool was the Light Box: a 20-foot-high (6-meter-high), boxy enclosure outfitted on the inside with 4,096 LED bulbs. (The harness for the wires had to be made just right to fit under Sandra Bullock's skivvies.) Still other scenes were shot while the actors perched on a variety of rigs set up on a turntable. For others, they were hooked up with a 12-wire suspension system, and then filmed with robotic cameras while puppeteers pulled their strings. "When we told her that that wasn't going to be the system, and we have these other sets of tools, she didn't care how painful the other tools were," Cuaron told .įor some scenes, the actors were filmed as they swam through their moves underwater. Those potentially nausea-inducing flights weren't an option for "Gravity" - in part because Cuaron was going for longer takes, and in part because Bullock has a deathly fear of flying. Due to the technological process, the margin for improvisation and spontaneity was very small, which added to the challenge for Sandra and George," Cuaron said.īut how do you get Sandra and George into zero-gravity mode? The weightless scenes in "Apollo 13" were filmed in short takes during parabolic airplane flights, which provide about a half-minute of weightlessness at a time. "The live action was limited by what was preprogrammed in the previs. The animation shaped the actors' performances. "We had to relearn physics, since we were all used to motion arcs that are determined by weight," senior animation supervisor David Shirk said in the movie's production notes. Early on, the filmmakers decided to map out the entire movie with computer-generated imagery in a process they called previsualization, or "previs."Īnimators adhered to the rules of objects in weightlessness as they previsualized the film, shot by shot, using highly detailed computer graphics. The work that went into pulling off that feat started years ago. Instead, we'll focus on how director Alfonso Cuaron and his team made Bullock and Clooney look good in zero gravity - so good that "Avatar" director James Cameron says "Gravity" is "the best space film ever done." ("It's a typical historical drama," Grazier said.) If it's nitpicking you're after, check out the critiques from Time, The New York Times and Blastr. (Though it's important to note that the cascading effect of orbital debris, also known as the Kessler Syndrome, is a real concern - as the Russians found out this year.)Īnd we won't worry about the fact that the space shuttles aren't flying anymore. We won't discuss how unlikely it would be for the planned shootdown of a satellite to cause an immediate catastrophe for a space shuttle. That orbit-crossing trek is one of the movie's key plot points, but in reality it's virtually impossible - which led to huge logistical complications for NASA's final Hubble servicing mission. So we won't dwell on how hard it would be to get from the Hubble Space Telescope to the International Space Station. That's a different movie, and that's not what they were shooting for." You can either say 'You can get to the ISS from here,' or you have a movie like 'Open Water' in space. "There are places where they went against the science input that they got, because it blows up their story," Kevin Grazier, a planetary scientist who served as an adviser for "Gravity," told NBC News. 6/30/2023 0 Comments Names crossword makerMost children have a smartphone or at least a tablet.
